When our own sinful choices inevitably bring calamity, we may be tempted to become depressed and fearful as we struggle to hold onto both our idol and our faith. This turmoil makes fertile ground for doubt, and we may begin to wonder if God really cares, or if He’s even there at all. King David knew this struggle well. But at the end of himself, David found hope in the very God that he had sinned against. David wisely chose to press in closer to God by faith, rather than run away. He reminded himself of God’s greatness, trusted in God’s character and power, and found delight in His person. He pleaded with God, acknowledging His boundless mercy and grace, and sought protection from the only One who could truly provide it. Is there an area of your life you are not yielding to God? Do you not believe that the God you’ve offended also desires to deliver you and bring glory to Himself? If you’re broken, you can be made useful again. That’s the heart of His gospel.
