The Better Adam, Part 3

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Passage: Romans 5:12

Adam, the perfect image-bearer of God, failed in a moment of temptation. Perfection was suddenly marred by corruption, and sin and death spoiled a world that until then had only known goodness, life, and unhindered fellowship with God. As our representative head and the physical father of all humanity, Adam’s corrupt nature was passed on to each one of us. We are all born spiritually dead, following in Adam’s footsteps so that we invariably express the evil that rules our hearts and minds. This is the problem of original sin— but that’s not the end of the story. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin by the Holy Spirit, and thus did not inherit Adam’s corruption and guilt. This God Man lived in perfect fulfillment of the Law and paid the full price of our sin. In Him, the problem of original sin is permanently solved. Our corrupt nature is regenerated, our dead spirit is made alive, and one day soon, our corrupt flesh will be made perfect once again as the gospel fully restores and makes all things new.
