Follow Me

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Topic: Witness Passage: Matthew 9:9–13

How should we respond to the sinful world around us? Do we turn away to avoid being stained, or do we join the sinner so that we may reach him for Christ? If the Church genuinely loves and desires to minister to unbelievers, the Church itself must teach and practice those things that our Lord taught and practiced. Jesus did not turn from the lost, but exhibited compassion by seeking out the sinner and calling him to follow. On the other hand, Jesus never compromised the perfect standard of God, either. His call to follow was a command to leave the life of sin, and to live a new life of righteousness, wisdom, and love. It is not for us to decide who is worthy to hear the gospel. All must hear! Nor is it for us to blunt the gospel by failing to call sinners to repentance, or undermine it by living short of God’s glory. When confronted with the choice of being legalistic or licentious, reject both. Choose instead to be like Christ, and demonstrate a holy compassion.
