Humility in Trials

Pastor: Pastor Eric Borgstrom Series: Special Topic Passage: 1 Peter 5:6–7

How do you respond to life’s difficulties? Do you seek escape in distractions, positive thinking, or ignoring your problems? A godly response to trials depends on an unwavering faith in God's sovereignty, wisdom, and love. If you lack confidence in Him, sinful worry will begin to dominate your thinking, which is nothing more than prideful self-will and unbelief. How can you avoid the snares of fear and worry? Humbly come under the mighty hand of God. He is sovereignly and intimately involved in all of your circumstances, and in these He is actively working to make you holy. Yield to Him in trust, knowing there is wisdom in waiting on His timetable for your deliverance. Cry out to Him in prayer, casting all of your cares and burdens upon Him. Finally, rest in His character and allow Him to teach you about your circumstances, rather than letting your circumstances teach you about God. Remember that there is something to learn in every trial. Relief doesn’t come from escape, but through patient endurance.
