Murder and the Law
Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 5:21–5:26
Jesus made clear that murder begins in the heart. If we harbor an attitude of contempt and guile towards another person, we are guilty of hating them, and are just as guilty as if we had carried out the physical act. As Christians, we know the interior struggle with sin, but we’re often unclear about what to do with our conviction. First and foremost, we must always take sin and guilt seriously, and confess our sin to God. But it’s not enough to simply acknowledge the wrong. We also have to make things right. Don’t remain silent when the heavy hand of conviction falls on your heart. Confess your sin to God and turn from it, and quickly seek restoration to the one you’ve offended. Then rejoice in the goodness of God for His complete forgiveness of you in Christ, and leave your past in the hands of the gracious and compassionate Lord who paid your debt in full.
