Christ and Moses, Part 1

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 5:17–5:20

Jesus warned His hearers not to misunderstand Him as He expounded on the Law of God. His intent was not to nullify the Law, but to correct their understanding of it. In this, there is also correction for any of us who have misunderstood Christ’s relationship to the Law of God. He did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. He fulfilled it as the final and perfect sacrifice for sin, and He fulfilled it by obeying it perfectly from the heart. But He also fulfilled the Law by expanding our understanding of it, and revealing its true intent. In Christ, we are not under the Mosaic application of the Law, but Christ’s application of it. He is the One who gives the Law, the One it points to, and the One who expands it, explains it, and satisfies it. We come to Him to seek repentance, to be clothed in His righteousness, to be made wise for salvation, and to see Him reign in our life as we are transformed to walk in His ways.
