Blessed are the Spiritually Hungry

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 5:6

Christ tells us that we are blessed if we are spiritually hungry. But what does He mean? Apart from the new birth, the natural man is spiritually dead and has no appetite for the things of God. But the spiritual man desires to know truth in his innermost being. He sees his utter lack of righteousness, and craves the remedy for his soul that God provides in His Word. It is an insatiable hunger that wants to see every area of the life and heart made holy. Its object is to know the salvation of God, and then to be increasingly transformed into the image of His glorious Son. How do you know if you are spiritually hungry? Ask yourself: What are you willing to sacrifice for the joy of walking in righteousness? Will you give up your time, wealth, and comfort, and trade it for a life of striving and laboring in pursuit of Jesus Christ? Discipleship will cost you every worldly desire, but in return God grants a life fully and eternally satisfied in Him.
