The Preparation for the King, Part 1

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 3:1–3:12

To be truly successful, a ministry must have God’s man bringing God’s message. All too often, we think that our wisdom and God’s will are the same, and we are tempted to measure church leaders with the wrong ruler. We put our confidence in popular men who reflect worldly success and display winsome ways and impressive natural gifts. But God looks at a man’s heart, not his appearance. Nowhere is this more profoundly illustrated than in the life of John the Baptist. Judged according to natural wisdom, John did everything wrong. He preached in the wilderness instead of the city, his lifestyle was odd and against the grain, and his message was anything but ear-tickling. Yet this strange man was reckoned by Jesus Christ to be the greatest man who had ever lived. God calls men to minister, we simply recognize the calling. Do you think you are too broken, sinful, and weak to be used for God’s purposes? On the contrary, you might just be ready to do His work.
