Practicing Forgiveness
Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Special Topic Passage: Colossians 3:3–3:3
Sometimes we are too easily offended, and we dwell on petty personal offenses that we should really just overlook. However, when a relationship has been harmed, it is time to actively pursue restoration. Forgiveness is not ours to withhold or bestow as we see fit, nor is it a feeling to seek or an ability to forget an offense. Forgiveness is a choice to release someone from their debt, and a gracious invitation to restore the relationship. Believers are commanded to bear with one another’s sins and weaknesses, and to practice forgiveness. Has someone sinned against you? Then take the initiative. Go to your brother and tell him of his sin, release him from his debt, and work toward restoration. How should you forgive? Freely and lavishly, just as your God has forgiven you in Christ Jesus.
