Godly Thinking Leads to Godly Living

Pastor: Pastor Eric Borgstrom Series: Special Topic Topic: Sanctification Passage: Philippians 4:8–9

True Christian change begins with the renewal of our thinking. The unbelieving mind is enslaved to worldly reasoning and the whims of desire and emotion, and these also bind and direct the will. However, a believer’s thinking is to be controlled and shaped by the truth. What does that really mean? Simple. Your life is the product of your thoughts, and therefore a truly Christian life is the result of disciplining your mind for godliness. How is this done? Begin by choosing to dwell only on those things that are true, honorable, and right. Fill your mind with thoughts that are consistent with God’s character, morally clean and undefiled, and that are good-natured and pleasing to all. Then set your heart to removing any hindrances that stand in the way of your spiritual growth. Resolve to break the slothful habit of avoiding the study of Scriptures, or of feeding your soul from superficial sources, and look carefully and objectively at your life for any kind of undisciplined living. Then as you learn to dwell on the truth, so practice it.
