The Parable of the Seed and the Sower, Part 2

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: The Parables Topic: Faith Passage: Matthew 13:3–9, Matthew 13:18–23

The parable of the sower illustrates the various responses of the human heart to God’s Word. The first soil is the hard path. It is the heart of the man who cannot understand the things of God. He rejects the truth as nonsense, and will not bow the knee in humility to repent of sin, embrace Christ, and follow God. The rocky soil is the heart that initially responds with joy at the proclamation of the truth. He loves the benefits of the gospel, but is ignorant of its cost. He has no depth for the truth to penetrate, and is unable to form the convictions necessary to endure the difficulties of rejection. The third soil gladly receives the Word, but cannot separate itself from the cares of the world. We all struggle at times with unbelief, but the good soil is the heart that perseveres so that the Word takes firm root. Cultivate the soil of your heart. Break up the hard ground, remove the rocks, and pull up the weeds, that you may bear maximum fruit for God.
