The Fountainhead of Our Faith

The foundation of the Christian faith is the teaching of the apostles. These men were chosen and sent by Christ Himself, witnesses to His ministry, and authenticated by the sign gifts. Their teaching is the very Word of God, the body of truth about the Person and work of Jesus Christ upon which our faith is built. But this faith that all believers share in common, and which leads each one of us in the Spirit to embrace Christ as Savior and bow before Him as Lord, is not a faith of our own making. Nor is faith in Christ the work we must do or the offering we must give in order to be forgiven by God and born again by His Spirit. No, salvation is a work of God from first to last! Even the faith that we hold is a gift of God, the evidence of a heart that is now inclined toward Christ because God has graciously, sovereignly, and savingly regenerated and brought the dead sinner to eternal spiritual life. To God alone be the glory!
