Characteristics of Godly Living: Love
Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Characteristics of Godly Living Topic: Love Passage: 1 Peter 1:22–25
Love for the Lord and others demonstrates the work of God’s Word in our lives, and testifies that we have indeed been born again. How? Because love for Christ and His people is the outworking of God’s will, and it can only be the product of the Spirit’s application of the truth to our hearts. Salvation is by the power of God, not man, and therefore its fruit is evidence of spiritual life. We were once dead, but were made alive by the eternal Word of God. The dead have no ability to believe His Word, nor do they have any taste for the joys of worshipping God or fellowshipping with His saints. These are expressions of the love of God, manifested by a heart quickened by His Spirit, and demonstrated through a faith in Jesus Christ given by the Father, through which we believe and are saved. Some may ask: If this is so, then why do anything at all? Friend, we do not love so that we may be His children, we love because we are His children!
