The Kingdom’s Critical Mission: Prepare for Difficulty, Part 1

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: The Kingdom's Critical Mission Topic: Persecution Passage: Matthew 10:16–23

Persecution should never be a surprise for the Christian. As we are faithful to Christ in both word and deed, we may encounter opposition at work, in the public arena, from family, or even from those who profess faith but who do not know the God of the Scriptures. When these inevitable difficulties come, our greatest need is not escape, but wisdom. We must guard against making idols of peace and security, and prepare to be as shrewd as serpents, yet as innocent as doves. We must not be naïve to the dangers, but instead be watchful and observant, testing all things and comparing them with the truth, and then moving through the circumstances with godly purpose. At the same time, we must also walk in holiness, seeking both the good of all people and the glory of our God. Persecution is certain for the faithful Christian. We must not compromise in the face of it, nor respond with fleshly anger or fear. Rather we must commit to endure it with wisdom and grace, trusting that God is at work.
