A Ministry of Glory

What is the purpose of the Church? Everyone seems to hold passionate and conflicting opinions, yet God speaks very clearly about this in His Word. In eternity past, God planned to display His wisdom and power through the Church, to the rulers and authorities in heavenly places. He would leave fallen angels to their doom, yet show mercy to the sons of Adam. He would take spiritually dead and rebellious creatures, ruined by slavery to sin, and redeem them through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He would make them alive and draw them together as one holy people by the power of His Spirit and under the headship of His Son, entrust them with a message and a ministry, and reveal in them a mystery now made clear, that God would bring praise to Himself by rescuing people from every nation, tribe, and tongue. Are you ever tempted to spiritual pride, or weariness in the work of ministry? Remember the undeserved privileges you’ve been given, and jealously guard God’s purpose for the Church.
