Christ's Triumphant Work

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Good Friday Service Topic: The Atonement Passage: John 10:17–18

As Jesus Christ appeared on the public scene, there was a great sense of religious anticipation in Israel. Many expected that Messiah would deliver Israel from her Roman occupiers, but Jesus soon presented a problem for the High Priest and Jewish leaders. If He was acknowledged to be Israel’s Messiah and King, Rome would depose Israel’s religious leaders and the nation would face the wrath of the Roman army. To protect their own interests, they conspired together to kill the Son of God. By the time Jesus entered Jerusalem for His final Passover, tensions were running high and there were persistent attempts on His life. Yet in all of this, nothing was outside of God’s control as Jesus made clear that He would lay down His life at the time of His own choosing. He would die on the Father’s pre-determined timetable, as all of the pieces came together and the moment arrived for Him to make atonement for our sin. Jesus came the first time to redeem His people and be resurrected. He is coming again soon to reign.
