A Call to Exposition

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Special Topic

Good sermons can come in many forms, from topical and expositional to theological, biographical, or historical. But whatever the style of the sermon, the preacher has a solemn responsibility to teach the singular meaning that God intended. We cannot take liberties with the Bible by choosing the truths we would emphasize, or by inserting our own agendas into its message. The Scriptures are perfect, complete, and authoritative. Therefore good preaching will engage the modern audience by taking them into the ancient setting, explaining God’s timeless truths, and demonstrating the relevance it has to their lives today. That’s why the pulpit of Saving Grace is committed to biblical exposition, which uses the details of the text to find the author’s original intent, and then uses that intent as the main purpose of the sermon. Preaching God’s Word is a high calling, and there is a responsibility we bear not only in preaching it, but in hearing it as well. If you leave convicted, encouraged, exhorted, or simply praising God, then you’ve had a proper encounter with the God of the Bible.
