Investing in Heaven's Treasures

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 6:19–24

Jesus warned us not to store up treasures on earth, but many have struggled with this command, wondering how to obey it in a world where money is needed to live. Does God expect us to live in poverty? Is it immoral to have wealth, or wrong to save our money? God doesn’t forbid our having wealth or possessions, nor does He limit how much we should own. What He does say is that our heart should be set on the pursuit of heavenly treasures rather than earthly goods. Obeying this command requires a godly perspective on material possessions. We must understand that heavenly rewards are eternal while earthly gain is temporary, and that our heart belongs to the one we choose to pursue. The wise man knows that he cannot serve both God and money. Rather, he must cling to the Lord above all things, and continually guard his heart against being divided between the love of God and the love of the world. This leaves you with a decision to make today: Which master will you serve?
