Pride: Our #1 Enemy

Pastor: Pastor Vinny Sawyer Series: Special Topic Passage: Daniel 4:1–37

King Nebuchadnezzar was one of the most powerful and influential rulers in history, but he failed to give God the glory He was due. As the king reflected with self-exaltation on his empire one day, God judged him and reduced the great king to a homeless madman. The sin of pride is dangerous, and can devastate us unless we commit ourselves to fight against it. How can we defeat such a powerful and pervasive sin? Learn to identify its presence in your life. Recognize the manifestations of pride when you find yourself glorying in your achievements and your strengths, or lusting for personal recognition and honor. Remember the penalty of pride, and how it felled people of far greater position and powers than you. Finally, direct your heart to rejoice in the Savior. Look to Him instead of yourself, and praise His works rather than your own. All pride is foolishness, and will always and only lead to your being humbled and abased. King Nebuchadnezzar had to learn the hard way, but he learned his lesson well. How about you?
