Run the Race

Pastor: Pastor Vinny Sawyer Series: Special Topic Passage: Hebrews 12:1–2

The Christian life is not easy. Though we are saved forever when we believe in Christ’s gospel and follow Him as Lord, the walk of faith requires us to strive and learn endurance. Distractions of every kind line our path and lure us to linger in selfish pursuits. Indwelling sin calls to our flesh and tempts us to satisfy unrighteous motives and wants. When faced with such formidable obstacles to spiritual growth, how can we endure? Remember those victorious saints who have gone before, and be encouraged by their faithful example. Set aside anything and everything that hinders or slows your spiritual progress, and put to death that sin that so easily entangles you. Above all, fix your eyes squarely on Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfector of our faith. No saint ever endured and overcame through reliance on his own strength or wisdom. Place your hope and trust solely and securely on the One who is superior to any angel or prophet, and whose covenant provides a better hope than any conceived by the minds of mere men.
