The Syrophoenician Woman

Pastor: Mark Bibbens Series: Special Topic Passage: Matthew 15:21

Only twice in Scripture did Jesus tell someone that their faith was great. One was the Syrophoenician woman. She was an outsider, a woman who belonged to a condemned race known as the Canaanites. She did not have the benefit of the Law or the promises of God, yet she came seeking mercy from the Savior, tearfully begging Him for help. Her pleas were initially met with silence, but genuine faith will not be discouraged or denied, and this is exactly what Jesus demonstrated in the life of this Gentile woman. In spite of the barriers put in her path, she continued to cry out to the Son of God and even boldly approached to worship Him! She did not argue with His assessment of her unworthiness, nor did she grumble at His seeming unwillingness, or show any sign that she could be dissuaded from obtaining His mercy. Are you burdened by troubles or trials? Then follow the example of this simple Gentile woman. Flee to the Savior, plead for His help, and find wholeness and relief worshipping at His feet.
