You are Salt

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 5:13

Many wonder what is wrong with Christianity today. The Church should be a godly influence on the world, yet that influence appears to be waning. Some say we need to be more culturally relevant, but mimicking the world won’t influence anyone to live for God. Thankfully, Christ gave us the solution we need when He told us that we are salt and light. Salt was a prized necessity in the ancient world. It was useful for preservation, medicine, seasoning, and purification. Salt kept meat from decay, cleaned wounds, and gave food a distinct flavor. Jesus’ point was that we are to live distinct lives that are a testimony to God’s character and power, so that we will be useful to God as that preservative against ungodliness, medicine against the sickness of sin, and unique flavor of righteousness in the world. The world needs that influence, and if we choose not to live distinctly we are good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled by men. How are you influencing the world around you to live for God?
