Blessed are the Persecuted

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 5:10–5:12

As open hostility toward biblical Christianity grows, what perspective should Christians have on the subject of persecution? We must begin by understanding that persecution is different than the normal trials we face as Christians. Persecution is slander, verbal abuse, or even physical assault suffered as a result of speaking the truth and pursuing a life of righteousness. Its purpose is to bring about God’s perfect will, and to make us more dependent upon Christ. As we follow our Savior in faithfully enduring persecution, we will see the undeniable work of God in our heart, which produces great assurance, joy, and anticipation of our heavenly reward. Though we are so richly blessed through persecution, still we are tempted to avoid it by remaining silent and passive, or even by giving tacit approval of sin and evil. Persecution is inevitable for the Christian, and we must be willing to suffer loss of our reputation, comfort, wealth, or even our very lives for the sake of Jesus Christ. Persecution is coming...are you ready?
