The Temptation of Christ, Part 3

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 4:1–4:11

Jesus was led into the wilderness to be humbled, tested, and to prove His obedience to God. Satan’s first temptation was intended to maneuver Christ into trusting in His own power rather than wait on the Father. The goal of the second was to tempt Him to doubt the Father’s purposes, and the third revealed Satan’s ultimate aim, which was to lure Jesus into idolatry. Yet every attempt of Satan failed because of Jesus’ perfect devotion to God. His obedience in the time of testing fills us with relief, assuring us that in Jesus Christ we have the perfect Mediator. His example also makes our hearts burn within us, as the new life within desires to emulate such faithful dependence upon God. Have you been born again? Then rest in the perfect and irrevocable salvation your Savior won for you, and follow carefully in His footsteps. Wholly devote yourself to God, yield to His authority in all things, and give your worship only to Him. Here you will find the strength God supplies for His people.
