The Temptation of Christ, Part 1

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Matthew Passage: Matthew 4:1–4:11

After John presented Him to Israel as the promised Messiah and King, Jesus went out alone into the Judean wilderness to face temptation. There in the desert, weakened and starving, Jesus would demonstrate His qualification to be our perfect Mediator by His obedience to the Father. He bore every temptation with unwavering faith so that He could bear our sins and become the source of salvation to all who trust in Him. In this work, Christ also provided the supreme example for us as we battle our flesh. In times of great want, need, or crisis, we may wonder why we suffer, and if we can really trust God to see us through. In that moment, we have a choice. We can rely on ourselves and walk by sight, or trust in God and walk by faith. How can we face temptation and persevere? Believe that the worship of God is greater than your earthly needs, trust that God’s provision is always better than your own, and wait on His timing and providential care to deliver you.
