Testing the Spirits

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Special Topic Passage: 1 John 4:1–4:21

Love is not silent when the truth of Christ is denied or twisted, but seeks to honor Him and protect others from being led astray by error. Love warns that God’s standards cannot be ignored, and proclaims that His remedies for sin and ignorance are sure and certain. Many false teachers have gone out into the world, and we have a charge from God to battle these doctrines of demons with the truth of His Word. Therefore, we must test the spirits by evaluating every idea according to the clarifying light of Scripture. We must discern what every teaching and ministry makes of Jesus Christ. Does it conform to what the Bible says of His Person and Work? Does it uphold God’s character and glory, and give you a greater desire for Christ and His Word? The world is filled with spiritual dangers; charlatans who couch unbiblical ideas in scriptural language to capture the unwary. Be on guard, but have confidence in Christ. Trust His wisdom and power to protect you from false teachers, and trust His Word alone to rescue those caught in their grip.
