Jesus is our perfect advocate because He is righteous, and He is the propitiation of sins. With these two qualities Jesus is set apart for the task at hand, and can sufficiently comfort us in our greatest need. Rightly understood, this passage should give us confidence in our relationship with God and a greater love for Jesus Christ.
