The Church exists to proclaim the gospel of Christ for the glory of God and the salvation of men. We were chosen by the Father, made sons through faith in the Person and work of the Son, and are empowered by the Spirit. Yet in spite of these profound and comforting truths, we are often tempted to trust in earthly means and ideas. Men elevate their traditions above the Word of God and promote them as paths to happiness and holiness. False teachers rise up and proclaim opinions that have the appearance of wisdom, but which demean the cross, glorify men, and end in spiritual devastation. God commands us to discern truth from error so that we will not be taken captive by these empty philosophies. How can we keep a true course in a world darkened by the love of deception? Fix your eyes on the embodiment of truth, the Lord Jesus Christ. Embrace only those teachings that exalt Him, and trust only in those means that honor Him. Christ alone is our security, our hope, and our life.
