Lessons from the Life of Solomon and Rehoboam

Pastor: Joe Gearo Series: Special Topic Topic: Wisdom Passage: 2 Chronicles 9:1– 12:16

A good reputation and the favor of God are more valuable than any measure of earthly wealth. This is priceless wisdom for us to treasure and pass on, and it begins with the fear of the Lord. King David loved the Lord with all of his heart, and he encouraged his son to trust in the God of Israel. King Solomon heard his father’s advice, cried out for God’s help in ruling Israel, and God gave him wisdom greater than any man on earth. Solomon’s son King Rehoboam heard this great wisdom, yet he rejected it and embraced the foolish counsel of his friends. What would make the son of the world’s wisest man forsake God? Frankly, though Solomon’s wisdom was without peer, his life in later years was a mess. Perhaps King Rehoboam rejected sound wisdom because his example was a father whose life didn’t always match his words. How can we avoid this in our own lives? Set your hope on Christ, your heart on righteousness, and your mind on the pure and transforming truth of the Scriptures.
