Characteristics of Godly Living: Faith

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Characteristics of Godly Living Topic: Faith Passage: 1 Peter 2:4–8

The Scriptures declare that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ, and that without faith it is impossible to please God. But what kind of faith is it that saves? Genuine faith believes objective truth with the mind, embraces the truth from the heart, and then responds by bending the will so that this truth is lived out in daily life. This faith produces spiritual transformation as we submit to God’s commands, demonstrates a longing to see Christ honored and exalted, and hopes in God’s promised eternal rewards. How does one come to saving faith? While we are commanded to believe God’s Word and express faith in Christ, the Bible is clear that faith is the gracious gift of God, not the work of men, so that no one can boast. We hear the truth of the gospel through which we come to faith, and by this faith we are built into a holy temple founded on Christ, through whom we become pleasing to God. What is the outcome of saving faith? A hope that will not disappoint!
